Selling printables and digital art online is a fantastic way of earning passive income for artists, crafters, and illustrators. You can learn graphic design online with classes and tutorials. As an analog creative, you should pursue skills in digitalizing your art. You have gold in your hands. In this post, I will show you the fast way of learning how to produce stellar digital products (the fast way). You need to learn how to digitalize your art in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. And no, you will never become a “real” graphic designer (it takes a lot more effort), but you will learn enough to create high-quality digital art and products.

Learn Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop

First of all, you need to learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.  There are free programs as well, as Gimp for example, but I would recommend getting the Creative Cloud plan right away. When you excel, you will eventually need (and want) to learn these programs anyway. Most professionals work with Adobe programs. As it takes time to learn Illustrator and Photoshop, it’s smart to dive right in and learn it from the start. Thre is no fun trying to master the programs when you have a business in full bloom. To learn graphic design online takes a bit of patience, but you can do it!

Signing up for Adobe CC

I recommend using the Photography plan (as you get Adobe Lightroom “for free”) and the Illustrator single app if you wish to sell vectorized art. You don’t need the whole CC plan. Lightroom is super when editing your pictures for your social media. It is available as an app too, which is very convenient. In Lightroom, you can edit your pictures using presets. It works a little like the Instagram filters. Another great feature that comes with the Adobe CC plan is Adobe Spark. In this program, you can quickly create cohesive branding pictures.

At first, the pricing of the Adobe plans might feel daunting. But I assure you will soon find that you get very much for the price. Read the disclosures carefully though. The downside with signing up for Adobe is that the customer service at times can be very harsh. Be sure to read how to end your free trial, if you decide to try the program. They will not give you any slack if you misunderstand the terms and conditions. Trust me; I know this too well. Now, with that said, you are ready to start your journey from an analog artist to a digital one!

Learn graphic design online – the fast way

For me, transitioning from an analog artist to a digital one has been a struggle. Sometimes I just wanted to give up and stay with my papers and pens. I watched the Adobe tutorials and spent hours (days!) searching for YouTube tutorials, which often just give answers on how to do ONE thing. Usually, you need to have experience with the programs to follow along. With experience, I learned that there is a much faster and easier way of learning the somewhat (very) complicated programs as Illustrator and Photoshop. You need to have a plan to learn graphic design online efficiently.

I often talk about time-management and efficiency on my blog. Searching for the “right” YouTube video that you follow along with and is sharing everything you need to know is time-consuming. Time is money; this is not a smart way of learning at all. I wish I knew what I am about to share with you when I first started myself.
